For my IB Environmental Sciences class, I must design an experiement that measures and traces the flow of a particular nutrient in a closed ecosystem.

Here is what the Science Lab Planning Worksheet looks like:

————

Planning (a):
1) Research Question:
2) Hypothesis/Prediction:
3) Independent Variable(s):
4) Dependent Variable(s):
5) Control Variables:

Planning (b):
1) Materials:
2) Apparatus:
3) Procedures/Protocols:

Notes:

————

If anyone could shed some light on this for me and assist me in coming up with ideas for a good experiment for this, in addition to assisting me with the above outlined sections, I would greatly appreciate it!

I will give a good amount of points to the best answer, so please be as thorough and detailed as possible when responding!

You have a lot of leeway with this, since you can choose whatever nutrient you want. Some nutrients, like water, are easy to track since they can be measured very well in the environment, and you automatically have a good idea of how much water each organism holds. I would first research different types of nutrients before you start this project.

Good luck!

what quotes am i looking for, tradesman, office? Its all very confusing.
I have a company that design garden areas for children but we also construct designs also, and some are pre-made in the shed.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Contact an Insurance Broker (plenty in the yellow pages), and they will tell you all you need to know.

I am definitely new to creating a website, but the one I’m interested in designing will require viewers to submit info. How do I set up a database (I’ve already set up MySQL and MyAdmin) to where I can go in and review their info? Any help will be appreciated!
Let me just add, I need these things explained to me in novice terms. Again, I’ve no clue as to what I’m doing. Thank you!

So, the first thing you have to know is that a website cannot directly interact with a database. When you have a form, it has two required attributes – action and method (i.e., when putting the form on an html page, you have to put "form action="whatever" method="post/get""). The action part tells the page where to send it to, and the method part tells it how to send it. Typically, you’re going to use post.

So, the browser then submits the information to the program that handles the info. This is where the programming languages come in. There are many types that can handle it – some common ones include CGI, PHP, Java, etc. Personally, I’ve used PHP and Java, ASP, and occasionally CGI, but it’s sort of a bear. PHP is probably the easiest, but Java can let you do some pretty cool stuff with it too. Unfortunately, unless you’re versed in some server-side language, you might have a bit of learning to do.

By server-side language, I mean a language installed on the server side where your website is hosted. If your hosting site doesn’t have Java installed, for instance, there’s no reason to go and learn it and set up servlets/java server pages to handle your stuff. Most have PHP or ASP, but you’d have to check to be sure.

Once you’ve determined that, you need to get ahold of a database connector for that language. Again, even these programs can’t directly communicate with a database – they need what’s called a driver to do so. They communicate through the driver using what’s called an API (fancy acronym for different methods you can call to do stuff) to speak with the database and make changes and such.

Now, that being said, this can get pretty hairy, and it’s best if you can install a local version on your machine and test it out to see how things work before you go playing around with it on the live side too much.

You also want to be aware that there are things called SQL injection attacks that can leave your site vulnerable, and you’ll want to read up on precautions for dealing with that.

Anyway, I know this isn’t a comprehensive answer, but at least it might point you in a direction of where to begin. Unfortunately, there’s really no super-easy way to deal with this at this time, but once you get one of the languages down, it’s not so bad.

Doors are ubiquitous, and come in solid, screened, windowed, whatever. I designed a frame around standard door sizes, so that anyone could erect the frame and fill the openings with whatever they wanted, giving them a huge range of choices in what they wanted their shed to be made of. Four doors would be fixed to give it stability; others would open, close, be screened, whatever, there are as many options as there are doors.

I’d like to build one with a concrete foundation. I’ve roofed, sawed and hammered as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer. I’ve also laid my own tile without major trouble. But I have only the most basic tools.

I’ve considered just buying a kit, but I’d like a shed with some personality, and I like the idea of creating something from scratch. I’ve browsed Amazon.com for shed book ideas, and there are plenty. "Barns, Sheds and Outbuildings: Plan, Design, Build" seems thorough. I’ll also visit my library before I decide whether to build on my own.

Is this a crazy idea? Please share your experiences and suggestions.

It’s always a good idea to reseach your project completely before you get involved. You may want to choose a design that doesn’t require building rafters yourself. My neighbor is currently building one from a kit that didn’t include the rafters (even though the store recommended one that did to save him the hassle) and he is right now, out there cursing a blue streak. He’s been working on it for a month now.
Just a suggestion!

Was thinking it would be easy to build a pretty good shed using sheets of exterior plywood that you cut into say three inch strips which have notches in them which then lock together v. much like the simple book shelfs you made as a child.

I will admit right up front I am not a carpenter! But, a friend of mine did a garden shed that looked like an old outhouse. It was too cute! and needless to say it was left alone…..We live in a rural area and it just fit into our landscape. Good luck on your shed!
